That’s interesting. I just did a few quick searches, ‘web design Paris’, ‘web design New York’ and a few other cities and areas around the globe, the 10 pack appeared. Then I added Irish regional qualifiers and the 10 box results didn’t appear at all.

I thought maybe with adding the city or region Google would trigger local search and it wouldn’t matter whereabouts in the world you where. For instance I might be in New York, coming to Dublin for a conference and when I type in ‘B&B Dublin’ Google should be able to trigger local search results. That appears not to be the case.

I think it was the 10 pack’s anniversary a few weeks ago. It’s certainly changing the SERPS, and offers great opportunities, it’s
also quite annoying to be top of the organics and notice 10 results plus 3 PPC results above a listing.

You should take St. Paddy’s day off and go for a pint :-) forget about little green bars and big G.

Best
Michael.

Sorry for not responding – been a bit under the cosh again.
Local doesn’t appear in regular google – likely because they cant tell your location as all our IP addresses are so piss poor. I’m in Dublin, with Digiweb, and google thinks I’m in Louth.
Where Local is turned on though is mobile. I was on my phone recently and searched for something (cant remember) and lo-and-behold there was local results, maps addresses, the whole shebang :)

Try on your phone, but do it on the mobile network not wifi.
Rgds, and hope your well
Richard

Do local search results show up in google.ie?
I just did a number of searches for hotels, guesthouses, b&b in Donegal and there doesn’t appear to be any showing.

cheers,
Michael.

They also get a chance to do good local business.

I’m yet to see any local listings in Google’s Irish SERPs :(

Not sure what the deal is – but I’m sure we’ll hear about it officially as soon as they launch.

Rgds
Richard

What’s the story there?

Hadn’t realised this wasn’t in action in Ireland yet. We’ve been using this in France with some clients. If you can get the right keywords in your listing, it can get your listing at the top of some very nice search results. Well worth it.
