A few things cut through that article:
1) Google have said for years, can you really truly do a great job of more than a few sites?
2) Low quality, easy tactics aren't working as well as they used to.
3) Any website or content without appropriate promotion, advertising and community building will struggle in general I think – some of which are very hard to achieve with hundreds of sites.
