Well, yes.  Perhaps you should learn to spell before you try to sell a shit domain for $49,000. Also learn to price properly. Here's a short dictionary word domain offered for $35,000 https://flippa.com/2873856-detect-com-category-killer-domain.

  12. Unlikely. Remember, a fool and his money are easily parted.

Some of the stuff that goes on over there is amazing.  People bidding $20k for a site without seeing any stats etc. Many scam sellers also over there who use the worst spam tactics you'll find to pump and dump sites.

Unfortunately Flippa takes no responsibility for due diligence whatsoever, and even when you report dodgy crap it often stays for sale. I'm not a big fan obviously.

  16. +Jim Munro - to be known evermore as Flower – a cockney term of affection ;) Possibly still in use amongst those cockneys who left our shores involuntarily? //ducks and runs//

  17. I don't know much about that niche, but I suspect there could be a few in there of value. Personally I wouldn't go near anything with "and" or "for" in it. flowersnextday.com and flowerschocolates.com looks kinda nice. flowerdeliverynextday.com and flowerdeliveriesonline.com probably get a couple $k.

To give some perspective, FlowerDelivery.org.uk sold at auction for $2,464 back in 2011.

Here's some AU domains currently listed in this niche:
    http://www.netfleet.com.au/catalogue-domains?adv=&category=catalogue&s=flowerdelivery

.com will likely sell for a multiple of .co.au (and .org.uk for that matter).

  18. Here's another – looking for around STG £5,000 for it:

  19. Thank you for taking the trouble Richard. I appreciate it.

    Comment by Jim Munro — January 25, 2013 @ 1:10 pm

  20. If you ever want to unload them you should probably watch some of the premium auctions. They're often based on particular niches, although I haven't seen flowers come up. An interesting newsletter is TobyClements.com which has daily auctions based on niche.  They send out requests for submissions and then take a commission on any sale.

I've be shocked if there wasn't $10-20k in those flower related domains, but I wouldn't consider myself expert enough to value them.

  21. So – Question.
Are these doains (of both of yours) intended for use, or solely to flog on for profit (and if so, how unreasonably?)
    ?

    Comment by Lyndon NA — January 25, 2013 @ 1:15 pm

  22. Post is making me sulk a bit – amount of new startups we get through the door – can we have this domain – probably not, can we have that domain – no… repeat repeat

    Comment by Andy Wigglesworth — January 25, 2013 @ 1:18 pm

  23. I intend to build on them mate, but at my current pace I'll be dead before I get 5% in.

  25. Most of mine have had romantic plans to develop, but it's nigh on impossible once you get more than 10s of domains. So I do take a broader view, and expect to sell some in future. I rarely hand-reg any domains these days, so the initial cost of acquiring them is far higher. In some cases I've paid $k's for domains, but these are generally in areas that I know have very high industry value.  I also own a lot of geo domains, which are never going to be as valuable as generics.

But I do understand that every domain name is unique, and some do have value. I view some of mine as investments. Plain and simple.

  26. +Jim Munro samedayflowers and flowerssameday wouldn't quite have identical values. I suspect sendflowerssameday would have a lower value again as it's longer and less brandable IMO.

  27. Thanks Richard. :)

  28. +Andy Wigglesworth - a client I had assumed the domain was there for the taking and printed all her business stationery with her dream domain before talking to me. I'm sure she blamed me for it not being available!

  29. +Maggie Tattersall heh, ouch… still a client?

  30. I did not realise there were so many, Richard. Are there any of the others you like as well as flippa?

    Comment by Jim Munro — January 25, 2013 @ 2:23 pm

  31. +Andy Wigglesworth - yes, tho there's always been an element of trust missing! I'm sure she thinks I could have tried harder – but that's probably 'normal' for our line of work :)

    Comment by Maggie Tattersall — January 25, 2013 @ 2:27 pm

  32. I wouldn't go near Flippa as a buyer Jim.  There are a tonne of aftermarket auction services, e.g. Snapnames, Namejet (actually drop catch), Godaddy Auctions (deleting), Afternic, Sedo etc.

  33. samedayflowers.com sold for $11k in AUG 11
