There's some really interesting discussion around the Cyprus bailout and the EU project in general on this news story.

Personally I'mm beginning to think the entire EU project may actually end  very badly, and the Euro is likely doomed in its current format.

  1. I did say that this would have knock-on effects beyond Cyprus' and its borders and that Italy would be deserted… and yes, this doesn't bode well. I do think it'll end in tears for the Euro in its present incarnation.

That said, Cyprus has brought it upon itself… I'm heading back there on the 7th of April, before flying out to SF on May 1st. While I'm in the States I'll be heading down to the Yucatan peninsula to have a good, long look around to see what it's like.

  2. Thing is though… I cannot help but wonder why everyone has so very judiciously avoided mentioning/involving the billions upon billions of Dollars in gas and oil fields located within Cyprus' territorial waters…

  4. Funny you should say that… I have a couple of friends recommending the Philippines. And of course there's always Thailand… Ana's really fallen in love with Thailand after her two stints there…

  5. Lots of outsourced offices in Phillipines, but I've also heard it's probably more corrupt than Thailand… sigh

But living out here is fairly cheaper, the weather is good, and generally people seem fairly happy.
