Internet Marketing Ireland

Posting has been non-existent here for the last while – work, work, work, sleep, event, event with Dave (we had good craic at that), sleep, more events with Damien, more work….

But this little tidbit is worthy of breaking the hiatus – Local Business Center is now available for Ireland:

Earlier this year I wrote wondering when Google Local Listings might finally arrive in Ireland. Well yesterday I noticed Ireland in the drop-down, so went through the registration process. 2 minutes work and an SMS validation gateway at the end for real simplicity:

This along with the recent updates to geo-targeting abilities in Google Webmaster Console for non cTLD domains, it looks strongly like we’ll be getting much more blended results in Google.ie results pages.

If you have a business which serves a set geographic area (e.g. restaurants) you should go over and create your local business profile ASAP.

  8. Hi Richard,

Hadn’t realised this wasn’t in action in Ireland yet. We’ve been using this in France with some clients. If you can get the right keywords in your listing, it can get your listing at the top of some very nice search results. Well worth it.

  9. I still don’t see any local business listings for high volume terms such as ‘dublin hotels’ or ‘dublin restaurants’. What’s the story there?

  10. Hi Ian

I’m yet to see any local listings in Google’s Irish SERPs :(

Not sure what the deal is – but I’m sure we’ll hear about it officially as soon as they launch.

    Rgds
    Richard

  12. This is a great feature and very useful for local business whose websites are not very well optimized. They also get a chance to do good local business.

  13. Hi Richard,

Do local search results show up in google.ie?
I just did a number of searches for hotels, guesthouses, b&b in Donegal and there doesn’t appear to be any showing.

    cheers,
    Michael.

  14. Hey Michael

Sorry for not responding – been a bit under the cosh again.
Local doesn’t appear in regular google – likely because they cant tell your location as all our IP addresses are so piss poor. I’m in Dublin, with Digiweb, and google thinks I’m in Louth.
Where Local is turned on though is mobile. I was on my phone recently and searched for something (cant remember) and lo-and-behold there was local results, maps addresses, the whole shebang :)

Try on your phone, but do it on the mobile network not wifi.
    Rgds, and hope your well
    Richard

  15. Hi Richard,

That’s interesting. I just did a few quick searches, ‘web design Paris’, ‘web design New York’ and a few other cities and areas around the globe, the 10 pack appeared. Then I added Irish regional qualifiers and the 10 box results didn’t appear at all.

I thought maybe with adding the city or region Google would trigger local search and it wouldn’t matter whereabouts in the world you where. For instance I might be in New York, coming to Dublin for a conference and when I type in ‘B&B Dublin’ Google should be able to trigger local search results. That appears not to be the case.

I think it was the 10 pack’s anniversary a few weeks ago. It’s certainly changing the SERPS, and offers great opportunities, it’s
also quite annoying to be top of the organics and notice 10 results plus 3 PPC results above a listing.

You should take St. Paddy’s day off and go for a pint :-) forget about little green bars and big G.

    Best
    Michael.
