I saw this ad last night on telly, and I have to say it grabbed my attention. Probably did so because it’s a fairly radical departure for BMW who had previously focused on the product. This ad is all about emotion:

  1. And it is a woman driving the car – I remember seeing a ton of web comment attacking the feminisation of BMW It’s great branding though.

  2. Hi Haydn

I always think of cars/metal/technology when I consider BMW ads. With this ad I feel it’s suddenly all about lifestyle and emotion. I know they always stressed lifestyle, but this is the first time I’ve equated BMW with personality.

    Thanks for dropping by, rgds

  3. I agree Richard. I was making a different off-post comment in some ways. I think BMW are absolutely superb at being a whole range of things to different people, even keeping a core tech customer base happy while consciously feminising their product range and customer service.

  4. Hey Haydn

Good points, and I actually think this particular ad shows a move away from technology. Regardless of what they’re trying to achieve, they certainly have turned heads. They also run the same ad with Patrick Stewart (of Star Trek fame) doing voice-over.

  5. I only saw this advert once and made me think how different it was to BMW’s usual technology focused campaigns. They definetly have a strong enough brand to move in different directions with their advertising and product lines.
