Yahoo.ie Launches 2 Years Later, And Still Not Irish

When I look back and see that almost 2 years have passed since writing about Yahoo!’s Irish Search Results I have to wonder where does the time go? A couple of days ago a Yahoo! employee called Dave left a comment on that post mentioning that Yahoo.ie is now alive and kicking:

Yahoo! Ireland homepage - yahoo.ie
Yahoo!’s new Irish yahoo.ie homepage

But maybe they haven’t committed 100% yet to their Irish presence:

Yahoo! Ireland Property Section
Yahoo! Ireland Property Section

Lots of Irish finance news (not):

Yahoo! Ireland finance section
Yahoo! Ireland finance section

But surely they’ll serve up Irish personals (dating)…

Yahoo! Ireland Personals (Dating)
Yahoo! Ireland Personals (Dating)

Try entering Dublin as your city and see what they return…. *sigh*

So basically Yahoo! has given us a new Irish homepage to their UK portal. Maybe in another 2 years they may actually include some Irish content… Not holding breath :(

  1. Two points:
    - on finance it is hard enough to get decent and timely Irish financial data from ANY source, even the stock exchange themselves, also most Irish companies list in London. None of the other finance portal carry irish company data either to any decent extent.
    - on dating, who would want to date Irish people anyway, maybe Yahoo are trying to raise the standards ;-)

  2. Not surprising from Yahoo! really though is it.

It’s taken them 10 years to get from offering “Ireland only” results, that never worked very well to a dedicted Irish page. The only difference I can see is the logo and an attempt at providing Irish content. Hardly something to be proud of!

If I was Dave from Yahoo!, I’d be very disappointed at the progress that has been made in those 10 years – even the council would do more in 10 years ;)
