Internet Marketing Ireland

Two weeks ago myself and John Ring were invited to discuss SEO for a forthcoming Enterprise Ireland Podcast. Ralph Averbuch was our host for the day guiding the conversation from topic to topic, and I have to say Ralph did a lot of homework which really made things easy on the day.

Both John and I had a great time talking with Ralph, and while we really only touched on basic high level issues I think the discussion is useful for any SME considering Organic Search as a marketing channel.

You can listen to the Podcast by visiting this page: Enterprise Ireland SEO Podcast.

If you do listen I’d love to hear any feedback you have, both good and bad.

  1. I listened to the Seo podcast when someone on Twitter posted it. Companies are only now starting to understand how important Seo is to their online presence. Educating people to the value of Seo can only help. Too many people such as myself have been fooled. Companies who don’t deliver results should not be allowed practice Seo. I got sucked in previously because of the price differences. I now realise that spending 2-3k is far cheaper than spending €700 on something that doesn’t work. Education is the key here.

  2. Hi Keith

    Thanks for commenting. Hopefully you got some value from the podcast then, and I agree that education is key. Sadly I see most Irish companies viewing their online channel as a cost rather than an investment, and very few are willing to invest the resources required to succeed. Many of those same companies are happy to drop €5k on a Sunday paper ad… Go figure.

    Thanks for dropping by, rgds

  3. Richard,
    Great podcast, I have passed in onto a few business that will learn from it……hopefully

    One question, you mention getting keyword stats/data from your adword campaigns. Is this extra information that you cant get from Google Analytics and the google Keyword tool?

    Regards

  4. Podcast is really useful, but there’re some questions. While spending 5k to newspapers customer can calculate a result. But in SEO result is less predictable. Maybe there’s a scheme to calculate ROI for the ordinary site?

  5. While in the short term you may not see a positive roi for Seo, over the period of 8-12 weeks you should notice an improvement in your sales if your site is properly directed at your target audience. This is targeted advertising of your services / products as opposed to a blanket newspaper campaign and as a result will take time to properly develop and research. If a rise in sales activity is not the case and sales do not improve but your SERP and page rank does then this is not an issue for your SEO but more for your website marketing. SEO is key to any business looking to do online activity and as said above education is the key. It is easy to spend money on this area but you do need to know what to spend it on and also who is the right people to spend it with – I would start with spending it on myself first for some education materials and read into the area before handing this over to a company that do not know your audience or your business nearly as well as you do.

  6. @Dave Allen – apologies for not responding. The stats from your Adwords account is actual data. The stats from the Keyword Tool is estimated and generally less accurate the smaller the location and numbers returned become.

    @Media-sfera – I’d challenge your comment about newspaper ads being measurable? At least with SEO you can measure how many people arrived and looked at your site. How can you measure that for a press campaign?

    @Paul – good points Paul.

    Thanks to all for commenting.
